This wood is soft and is preferred for its use in making wooden toys, stationery and other ornamental wooden crafts. The Toys are Lacquered in safe vegetable and natural colours making them child friendly. The car has a smooth finish with rounded edges and is safe for a child even if the child puts the toy in his mouth. The toy is made by a precision method of turning the wood on a lathe to form various shapes and is then applied with lacquers to seal and give a vibrant colour and attractive design. All of these toys are made by rural artisans who have practised the art for years in the same way that the craft has been passed down from one generation to the other. The toy has movable wheels and can be moved on a plain surface. These toys are safe, colourful and attractive and can provide hours of entertainment for young children. Etikoppaka woodcraft have a GI tag for their art form. Approximately there are 200 people of Etikoppaka region who are artisans and manufacture these wooden lacquered crafts. This craft is roughly 400 years old. They are traditionally known as Etikoppaka toys or Etikoppaka Bommalu. The toys are also called as lacquer toys because of the colours used.
